What is the Capital Of Belize?

Belmopan! (well, these are photos on the way to Belmopan this week)

On both Tuesday and today, Phil and I went to Belmopan. It is a beautiful 1.5 hour drive on the Hummingbird Highway. It goes threw the jungle covered mountains. The photos I have included shows how the rows of Orange trees sometimes are planted up along he hills. The crews are out with their machetes cutting the ditches back. There are fires everywhere...like controlled burns to control the jungle from yards and growing areas. Check out the one lane bridge! There are a few of them. I kinda hold my breath when we drive over them.

Today it was in the upper 90's with NO BREEZE inland where we were. I finished the process of getting my work permit. I have now seen the Social Security office, Immigration Office and Income Tax office of Belize. I will also have a new social security number for working in Belize. Its kinda neat. Phil has also just started the process.

We have a nice BIG hardware store in Belmopan. Its not Menard's, but its big! We have a Brodie's grocery store and it has even more than The Price Is Right in Dangriga.

We got a new comforter and curtains for our apartments. I am nesting! Its feeling more and more like home. We moved out little love seat to our office/living room in another room on the resort and are borrowing a table for the time being. Next week a cabinet and desk will go where the TV is and hide all the computer equipment. In a few weeks, we should be getting an island that is being replaced in another suite. Being how we love to cook it will be perfect for "doubling" the size of our kitchen and having room to spread out some more. Its still a work in progress, so excuse the mess!

Our other big comfort of home is The Twins! We have the FSN North on our Dish. We keep watching for Christian and Serena! (and "Mrs. Morneau")

Not sure if you can see this little guy. These are the little chameleon that run on the ground. He is very tiny and I see him in the same spot each day. These are not the one on the walls.

Here was a windy, wavy morning. Its normally very calm in the morning here...like glass. So Phil just loves the waves.

I had no idea it was so easy to post a video clip. I'll take more videos!

First Week in Belize

After packing two houses up and hauling a lot of things to the dump, we loaded an airplane on April 23rd. We go back to our apartment and crashed.

The next day we went to Dangriga to the market and the Price is Right Supermarket. You can find just about anything you need at he store in Dangriga. The prices are like a local convenience store, so they are not too outrageous. I am sure as time goes by I could make a list of things we miss and cant find.

The market is neat to see. The things for sale seem to duplicate themselves as you visit each booth. lots of plastic for sale here. But they are not always that sturdy of a product.

The kids all get out of school for lunch around 11:30. Most businesses close as well to have lunch. These little boys liked having their photos taken. The kids are so cute here! Again, the kids learn English in school and their native language at home. In our village most all people speak English, Spanish, Garafuna, and Creole.

Phil has been enjoying his retirement. And as of this week he has accepted a full time job so I guess it not even semi-retirement. He is now working for the owners leading the maintenance crew and basically organizing the projects that need to be done. Its flexible enough to be able to have the same days off I do most of the time.

Phil has been doing a lot of swimming. He has also been walking into town along the Beach.

I am enjoying working. The days just fly by. Its neat to meet so many people form all over. Today 3 people came by who visited the spa while it was under construction.

Well, we will bring the camera with us more this week as we head into Belmopan. Its the Hummingbird Highway and it goes threw the jungles and mountains. It is so beautiful!!

Vegas 4/9/2008

To turn the clocks back a little....

On April 7 I returned to the States just to get on a flight to Vegas with my Partner in Crime, Diane.

We got our free Cheeseburgers on the way down and that was bout the last free thing we came across in Vegas.

We shopped and visited the Coach Purse petting zoos. I tried on shoes that cost more than my ticket to Vegas. We also took time to see a show!

I was able to also see Barry Manilow! Most of you don't know that I am a bit of a Fanilow! I had a ticket for second row on stage!! He even danced with the woman sitting in front of me!! It was a fantastic show!!

So, Diane and I had a great trip with lot of laughs! Then it was home to pack two houses.
